Honoring a Great Leader
It isn’t every day that TriAd is asked to attend one of the most distinguished service academies in the United States. This past July, TriAd’s video producer Bob Dawson had the privilege of covering a ceremony honoring Ohio Northern University and University of Findlay President Emeritus Dr. DeBow Freed, at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Dr. Freed was recognized by West Point’s historic Thayer Hotel and its room dedication program, which has honored some of our country’s most noted heroes.
Dr. Freed graduated from West Point in 1946, and served overseas for a total of seven years in Japan, Germany, Iran, Korea and Vietnam. He retired as a Colonel after twenty-three years of service. Freed and his wife, Catherine Moore Freed, then transitioned into a life of civilian higher education, where Dr. Freed served as Dean of Mt. Union College; President of Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois; President of Ohio Northern University; and President of the University of Findlay. Dr. Freed’s room at The Thayer Hotel contains photographs from his years of service in higher education, as well as a large plaque hanging in the hallway that features his West Point graduation photo.
Previously Bob served as a video producer under Dr. Freed at Ohio Northern University. It was his long relationship with Ohio Northern, and Dr. Freed, that prompted TriAd to cover this historic ceremony and produce a complete video capturing not only the room dedication, but also a pre-ceremony dinner and various shots of The Thayer Hotel and West Point. It was truly a honor to be a part of such an amazing day. TriAd congratulates Dr. DeBow Freed and his family for this truly distinguished honor.
