2020 Kiwanis Regatta
The Charity Regatta put on by the Kiwanis Club of Columbus looks a little different this year. Instead of water guns propelling sponsored yachts in an outdoor pool, online votes are being used to create a virtual race. For the safety of members and spectators amidst COVID-19, the club made the decision to host a virtual event this year.
Kiwanis supporters still ‘showed up’ to help their favorite charity raise funds. There are 27 mini yachts entered in the race. This year’s yachts were as creative as ever! Several boats donned a shark theme, and our favorite was covered in sliders (created by White Castle, of course).
The TriAd design was created by our Art Director, Michael Dubs. TriAd’s yacht features an oversized light bulb, emerging from a wooden shipping container made from popsicle sticks. It was inspired by TriAd Marketing & Media’s tagline, “Ideas that Inspire.” Dubs created the yacht one evening after work, tirelessly gluing popsicle sticks to get them perfectly aligned, then stenciling them by hand with the Triad logo. He’s a bit of a perfectionist, you know.
All proceeds go to the Columbus Kiwanis Foundation to support youth programs in central Ohio including the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Summer Reading Challenge, which is more important than ever for our city’s children!
Good luck to our fellow racers! We hope to see you in person in 2021!
